ROSEAU, DOMINICA, Friday, September 18th 2026 — The Maria Holder Memorial Trust has awarded funding to Business Training Centre to deliver vocational and digital skills training to 150 unemployed and underemployed young people in Dominica. The programme’s theme, Digital Inclusion & Skills Development for Unemployed Youth in Dominica, runs from September 2026 to September 2027.

The programme responds to a real need in Dominica’s labour market. Youth unemployment remains high, and many young people are ready to work but lack the certification employers ask for. The barriers are practical. Training costs money, and for those without a computer, it is out of reach. This programme tries to remove certain barriers to give participants a recognized qualification along with the digital skills employers now expect.

Applicants must be between 18 and 40 years of age and currently unemployed or underemployed. Priority will be given to those who left school early, single parents, people from low-income households 

Courses on offer include:

Electrical Technician, Plumbing, Building Construction Hotel Receptionist, Hospitality and Culinary Arts, Medical Administrative Assistant, Efficient Data Entry, Diploma in Secretarial Studies and Digital Marketing

Digital literacy is built into every course rather than taught separately, reflecting employer demand for workers who combine a trade with computer competence. Every participant earns an internationally recognized certification and completes an internship of six to eight weeks with one of BTC’s employer partners across the construction, hospitality and administrative sectors.
